Waltham Elementary had been used a “blended” learning plan, with in-person class in the morning and remote study in the afternoon. The Utica-area school is switching to all-remote starting the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Superintendent Kristi Eager issued a letter Friday advising parents Waltham will transition to 100% remote learning beginning Monday, Nov. 30, through Friday, Dec. 18, the last day before Christmas vacation, because of the COVID-19 surge.

“We know that this school closure may be stressful for all involved,” Eager said, “but we remain focused on the health and well-being of our students, faculty and staff and all of their families.”

Winter break runs through Monday, Jan. 4, and Waltham officials will then determine when to return to in-person learning.

Parents were further advised there will be no afternoon live or recorded lessons for students through Tuesday, Nov. 24, giving teachers time to prepare for this transition to remote learning.
