The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce awarded longtime Ottawa resident and business owner Luke Caruso Jr. with the 2020 Leo Parkerson Lifetime Achievement Award during its virtual annual meeting.
The award honors a person or group for an impact on the Ottawa area with the guiding principle of honoring public service through private initiative, according to a news release from the chamber.
Caruso was born and raised in Ottawa, and after graduating from Northwestern University, he returned to his hometown to work at the family business, Ottawa Dental Lab. He led the business through three major expansions and numerous smaller redesigns, according to the chamber news release.
The company currently has more than 200 employees. Three generations of Caruso's family run the business.
Caruso has served on numerous boards for local service agencies and currently serves with the YMCA on the new riverfront building.
Caruso also has been supportive of educational projects, civic initiatives and donating his time, talents and money to help efforts in Ottawa, according the Ottawa chamber.
Upon receiving the award, Caruso expressed his thanks.
“My family has been blessed to be in Ottawa, and I am thankful for all the great people who come together in this community,” he said.
