Streator's City Park will be lit for Christmas, some changes coming to celebration

City Park, downtown still will be decorated

The Light Up Streator committee Thursday canceled its in-park celebration for 2020 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Light Up Streator committee Thursday canceled its in-park celebration for 2020 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Streator's City Park still will be lit up for Christmas, but there will be no countdown event commemorating the light up.

The committee will light the park by 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28. People may walk around the park to view the decorations, but the committee asks those visiting to social distance.

Light Up Streator's announcement did not mention the Keeping Christmas Close to Home events, such as the annual lighted parade and vendors' markets. An announcement on those events is expected to come at a later date.

The committee also will decorate Main Street, the fire station and City Hall.

Santa’s house in the park has been canceled for 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"With the pandemic going on, the committee just wants everyone to be safe," the press release stated.
