Area roundup: Streator girls tennis blanks Peoria High, 5-0

Ottawa, Seneca and Marquette linksmen all earn victories

STREATOR — The Streator girls tennis team swept past Peoria High School, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon at the SHS courts.

The Lady Bulldogs received singles wins from No. 1 Claire Vogel [8-0] and No. 2 Lucy Zavada [8-3], as well as double victories from No. 1 Haley Berry/Lora Berry [8-0], No. 2 Charlee Bourell/Syria Zuniga [8-3] and No. 3 Svetlana Mickalkova/Daniella Rabago [8-1].

Ottawa 163, Mendota 166

At Mendota, the Pirates slipped past the host Trojans by three strokes. Drake Kaufman and Caden Ericzon each posted 40s to share medalist honors with Mendota's Jack Beetz. Jonathan Cooper's 41 and Drake Stoudt's 42 rounded out the locals scoring.

Seneca 172, Reed-Custer 201

At Nettle Creek Country Club, the Fighting Irish earned a solid win on senior night over the Comets. Seniors Holden Flynn [41, tied for medalist honors] and Austin Marshall [43] led the way for Seneca [10-3] with Rylee Stenzel and Noah Cade adding 44s.

Fieldcrest 178, Roanoke-Benson 178, Woodland 219

At Wolf Creek Golf Course, the Warriors fell to both the Knights and Rockets. Carter Ruff led Woodland with a 50, while Nolan Bressi [56], Glen Ruff [56], and Nick Hoekstra [57] rounded out the scoring.

Marquette 182, Bureau Valley 196, Midland 198

At Timber Ridge Golf Club, the Crusaders topped both the Storm and Timberwolves. Carsen Zellers led the way for Marquette with a 44, while Luke Couch, Tommy Durdan and Grant Waldron all carded 46s.

Oregon 192, Sandwich 202

At Silver Ridge, the Indians [2-10] fell to the host Hawks. Michael Barbey, Noah Klossing and Aidan Sullivan all scored 50s for Sandwich, while Sawyer Allen added a 52.

Ottawa 209, Roanoke-Benson 215

At Deer Park, the Lady Pirates, behind medalist Zoe Harris' 48, defeated the visiting Lady Rockets. Caroline Cooney added a 52, Megan Bessett a 53 and Abi Claus a 56 for Ottawa.

Plano 218, Seneca 254, Earlville 254

At Cedardell Golf Course, the Lady Irish claimed their first win of the season by defeating Earlville on a fifth score tie-breaker.

Laura Yegge paced Seneca with a 58, followed by Mallory Sobkowich's 64, Julia Hogan's 65 and Brandi Johnson's 67. Earlville received 60s each from Ella Harp and Lexie Campbell, a 66 from Kaydence Harp and a 68 from Avri Strohm.

Oregon 194, Sandwich 195

At Silver Ridge, the visiting Lady Indians [6-4] came up just one stroke short to the Lady Hawks. Alijah Campbell led Sandwich with a 44, followed by 49s from Morgan Ross and Grace Donahue and a 53 from Hanna Reedy.

At Mendota, the Corsairs were led by medalist Tyce Love's 43, with Cam Loomis and Turner Love each chipping in 46s and Alex Billings a 47.

At Mendota, the Lady Corsairs [12-1] defeated the host Lady Trojans with singles wins from No. 1Jenna Smithmeyer [8-2] and No. 2 Emma Cushing [8-4], as well as doubles triumphs by No. 1 Rylee O’Fallon/Isabel Heimsoth [8-1], No. 2 Cora Sisk/Emma Walker [8-0] and No. 3 Layne Krug/Abi Morris [8-1].
