Area roundup: Sandwich girls golf stays unbeaten in I-8 play

Lady Pirates top rival L-P on the links

The Sandwich girls golf team improved to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in Interstate Eight Conference play with a, 209-217, road win over Plano at Cedardell Golf Course.

Alijah Campbell led the way for the Lady Indians with a 43, while Morgan Ross added a 52, and Grace Donahue and Jayden Baumbach chipped in 55s.

Ottawa 215, La Salle-Peru 246

At Senica's Oak Ridge Golf Course, the Lady Pirates topped the Lady Cavaliers in the I-8 dual.

Zoe Harris paced Ottawa with a 44, followed by a 54 from Megan Bessett and a 57 from Abi Claus.

Boys golf

Kaneland 149, Ottawa 168

At Hughes Creek Golf Course in Elburn, the Pirates fell in the I-8 dual to the Knights.

Jonathan Cooper led OHS with a 40, with Drake Stoudt and Nick Angus each adding 41s and Drake Kaufmann a 46.

Rochelle 176, Sandwich 204

At Edgebrook Golf Club, the Indians came up short in their I-8 dual with the Hubs.

Jake Heilemeier led Sandwich with a 49, followed by Michael Barbey [50], Aidan Sullivan [52], and Noah Klossing [53]

Seneca linksmen win twice

The Fighting Irish posted a 185 to top both Coal City [194] and Prairie Central [175]. Holden Flynn had a 43 for SHS, followed by Noah Quigley [46], Rylee Stenzel [48], and A.J. Stiegler [48].

Lady Pirates win, Pirates fall at Plano

At Plano, the Ottawa girls picked up, 19-37, Interstate Eight Conference dual victory over the Lady Reapers while the boys squad dropped a 25-31 decision to the hosts.

In the girls race, Grace Carroll ran to victory in a time of 21 minutes, 25 seconds for OHS, with Eva Heimsoth [2nd, 22:53], Lainey Billings [3rd, 23:15], and Lexi Jett [5th, 24:03], contributing to the team score. In the boys race, Liam Tipple paced the locals, finishing fourth in 19:18, followed by Thomas Reinhardt [5th, 19:55], Aaron Noble [6th, 22:07], Deklan Ragan [7th, 22:23], and Cole Smelko [9th, 23:08].

Newark, Serena runners compete at Shabbona

At Shabbona State Park, the Norsemen posted 25 points to edge out Hinckley-Big Rock (32), while Serena had individual runners in the meet hosted by Indian Creek.

In the boys race, Newark's top three finishers were: Logan Pasakarnis [4th, 21:47], Robert Rios [6th, 22:02], and Stevie Martin [7th, 22:16]. Serena had Charley Hoppis [21:06] place third and Trent Johnson [27:10] 15th. The Lady Huskers' Libby Farrell [29:37] finished third in the girls race.

Indians, Lady Indians run at Kaneland

Sandwich Indians scored 71 points to placed third behind Kaneland [27] and Marmion [34], while the Lady Indians [48] finished behind the Lady Knights [15].

The top three placers for the boys were: Steve Aguilar [5th, 17:02], Dayton Beatty [13th, 18:07], and Max Cryer [14th, 18:10], while the top finishers for the girls were: Alana Stahl [6th, 21:57], Claire Roberts [9th, 23:15], and Peyton Rogers [10th, 24:02].

Girls tennis

Princeton 5, Streator 0

At Princeton, the Lady Bulldogs, despite a trio of close matches, dropped the road dual to the Lady Tigers.

Kaneland 172, Ottawa 225

At Hughes Creek, the Corsairs fell to the host Knights with Turner Love carding a 55, followed by Alex Billings and Dan Bruner with 56s, and Evan Spencer with a 58.

JV girls tennis

Ottawa 3, La Salle-Peru 2

At OHS tennis courts, the Lady Corsairs improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in I-8 play with the win over L-P.

Ottawa captured both singles matches — Jenna Smithmeyer at No. 1 [8-3] and Emma Cushing at No. 2 [9-7] — while the No. 3 doubles team of Layne Krug and Abi Morris earned a 9-7 victory.
