Facade work began at the former Midland State Bank building in downtown Streator.
Owner Rick Wilkinson received $15,000 grants from the city to update the south and west sides of the building.
He has told the City Council he hopes to spruce up the building with a 1930s-era look to bring in an upscale restaurant.
“We want the outside looking presentable,” Wilkinson had told city officials in April. “It’s such a prominent corner and we want that to be a focal point for the downtown.”
The building is at the corner of Main and Park streets, which is Route 18 heading west and Route 23 heading north through Streator.
