The following students were selected by Seneca High School teachers and staff as the students of the month for the final quarter of the 2019-20 year:
Jacob Ursua, Student of the Month: Jacob is the son of Jacob and Crissy Ursua of Seneca. Jacob plans on attending 42 Silicon Valley in Fremont, California, to study computer programming. He was active in track and field, cross country, TSA, robotics and WYSE. Jacob is a maker involved in various hobbies, from 3-D printing to drones. If it has something to do with technology, it’s probably something he will love.
Creighton O’Boyle, Role Model: Creighton is the son of Ted and Alisha O’Boyle of Seneca. Creighton plans to attend Joliet Junior College's OET program. He was active in football, basketball, track, CIA and FFA.
Claudia Morris, Most Improved Student: Claudia is the daughter of Tom Morris of Mazon. Claudia plans to attend Kankakee Community College to play softball and to major in elementary education. She is active in being a Student Ambassador, Art Club, FCCLA Club and part of the Softball team.
Calvin Maierhofer, Rookie of the Month: Calvin is the son of Jeff and Jenna Maierhofer of Seneca. Calvin plans on becoming an agriculture teacher. He is active in FFA, Math Team, cross country, basketball, baseball, theater and more. Calvin would like to thank his teachers and all the Seneca High School staff for making his freshman year great.
Ben Krause, Student of the Month: Ben is the son of Rusti Hasselbring and Patrick Krause of Mazon. Ben plans to participate in Basketball and Track at Iowa Wesleyan. He has been active in Basketball, Football, Track, Cross Country, CIA, FCA, Student Ambassador, Class Treasurer, Spanish Club, and National Honor Society. Ben is a 12 sport athlete, and has received the Outstanding Athlete Award, All Conference and All Academic All-Conference Awards.
Steven Bartkus, Role Model: Steven is the son of Cindy and Mike Bartkus of Marseilles. Steven plans to major in secondary education (science), attend Illinois Valley Community College for two years and then transfer to Illinois State University. He is active in Student Ambassador, CIA, TSA, Robotics Squad, soccer, football and track and field.
Charles Clay, Most Improved Student: Charles is the son of Caroline and Jeramie Clay of Mazon. Charles plans on serving in the Army as a medic. After the Army, he plans to continue in the medical field.
Ashlin Jackson, Rookie of the Month: Ashlin is the daughter of Christopher and Alaina Jackson of Marseilles. Ashlin plans to go to college but is unsure of which school or her major. She is active in FCCLA, FFA, secretary of the Freshman Student Council, FCA, spring musical, Drama Club and assists her dad in athletic training. She would like to thank those nominated her.
Jada Krueger, Student of the Month: Jada is the daughter of Bob and Kim Krueger of Seneca. Jada plans to go to Harold Ramis Film School after high school. She was active in the school plays, musicals, band, marching band, wind ensemble, choir, chamber choir, Drama Club, Art Club, cross country for two years and track for one year. She helped the music boosters program. She didn’t know her high school career would end in a pandemic, but she said she is glad she got involved and made the most of every moment she had.
Emma Elias, Role Model: Emma is the daughter of Vic and Melanie Elias of Mazon. Emma plans to attend Arizona State University in the fall and major in biomedical sciences to become a physician’s assistant. She was active in dance team, NHS, HOSA and FCCLA. She said she was looking forward to spending the summer with family and friends before leaving for Arizona.
Nicole Biros, Most Improved Student: Nicole is the daughter of Ann and Brian Biros of Mazon. Nicole plans to attend JJC and transfer to a university. She was active in band, yearbook, Art Club and FFA. She said during the past four years, Seneca High has helped shape her into who she is and she is really proud that Seneca was her high school. She has "made some really cool friends and memories."
Sy Salinas, Rookie of the Month: Sy is the son of Jami Salinas and Adam Salinas of Mazon. Sy plans to get his pilot license after high school. He is active in FFA.
