Mud slide had Route 29 down to one lane
The rain hit hard and fast in DePue and within about an hour, a substantial part of the village was flooded.
DePue Fire Chief Steve Rauh said heavy rain was too much for road ditches west of the village and when they quickly became overrun, the water flooded into a good part of the village, affecting many west side residents.
Several residents shared they have never seen flooding like this in DePue before as some streets initially had flowing water rushing down them.
As quickly as water came, it receded from village streets, leaving mud and debris everywhere one looked.
A street crew was dispatched to Princeton-DePue Road where fallen branches blocked access into the village, while a mudslide had Route 29 down to one lane.
Rauh said his department didn't receive any calls related to the flash flooding, but did get dispatched to a call on the west side of town and the ambulance was able to get through.
Rauh said so far the east side of the village is unaffected, however, he anticipates the lake may rise and cause some minor flooding in the those areas.
