The Streator Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry was able to raise more than $8,000 and help 40-plus households in its #StreatorStrong Feed The Need COVID-19 relief campaign.

The chamber selected 16 businesses that supply mainly food for the households benefiting from this initiative. The committee felt this is what beneficiaries truly need.

Gift cards from those businesses will be distributed early next week.

"This is truly a win-win for the people in and area business owners," chamber officials said. "We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!"

Theresa Solon at State Farm approached the chamber with this idea and assisted the chamber's committee. Rhonda Eilts placed and managed a GoFundMe page for the campaign. Jack Dzuris and Sue Straughn worked with area businesses to obtain mass quantities of gift cards.

The Streator River Rescue in memory of Jake Rodriguez pitched in $2,000 for the campaign, as well as Streator Home Savings Bank.
