The Voluntary Action Center's Meals on Wheels program is in need of paper bags to package meals for seniors and disabled people in need due to the COVID-19 crisis.
VAC is seeing an increased request for the program since Illinois instated the stay at home order.
"Many seniors who were our frequent luncheon guests are now in need of home delivered meals," agency officials said in a Wednesday news release. "This adds additional strain on the regular Meals on Wheels service to seniors who are isolated at home."
Meals on Wheels recipients receive both a hot plated meal and a sack lunch with cold food daily. Many clients are low income and will need a second cold meal to eat late in the day and additional deliveries are depleting supplies, according to the news release.
