SERENA — The Serena Huskers defeated the Henry-Senachwine Mallards 64-53 in a nonconference boys basketball game Tuesday night.
Serena led 16-12 after one quarter, 38-22 at the half and 51-40 through three periods.
Ben Shugrue scored 17 points to lead a quartet of Huskers in double figures. Connor Baker and Tony Pusateri added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Jack Rogers contributed 11 points.
Seneca 43, Newark 41 (OT)
At Seneca, the host Fighting Irish improved to 12-6 on the season thanks to an overtime thriller against the visiting Norsemen in nonconference play.
Roanoke-Benson 66, Fieldcrest 53
At Roanoke, the Knights slipped to 12-4 with the loss at Associated Press Class 1A No. 1 Roanoke-Benson (17-0) after leading by eight after one quarter.
Jaxon Cusac-McKay (13 points) and Cory Land (12 points) paced Fieldcrest.

At Downs, the Falcons suffered the HOIC road defeat.

At Sandwich, the Lady Indians (13-7, 4-3) beat the Lady Hubs in an Interstate Eight Conference game.
Sandwich was up 15-4 after one quarter, 30-13 at the half and 44-18 through three periods of play.
Ava Knepper and Jaylynn Vana each scored 11 points, while Clarie Roberts added 10 to lead the Lady Indians.
Streator 66, Manteno 35
At Manteno on Monday, the Lady Bulldogs (9-10, 3-4) beat the Panthers in an Illinois Central Eight Conference game.
Natali Haynes posted a double-double, scoring 28 points and grabbing 18 rebounds, to lead Streator. Jozie Cole added 13 points.
Pirates 3rd in I-8 Meet
The Ottawa Pirates placed third in the Interstate Eight Conference Meet.
Zander Parise rolled a 1,245 six-game series — which included games of 246, 211, 211 and 201 — to place fifth individually and medal for Ottawa. Colin Sheridan added a 1,159 series, which included games of 234 and 233.
Ty Trovero and Keegan Fleming were seventh and eighth, respectively, for honorable mention all-conference.

The Lady Bulldogs were beaten by the Lady Cavaliers in a meet.
For Streator, Gabby Pickens had a 481 series and Felicity Kruger a 173 game.

The Sandwich Indians beat the Lions and defeated the Comets in a nonconference triangular meet.
Posting wins for Sandwich versus Lisle were Evan Fraser at 120 pounds, Evan Reilly (126), Braulio Flores (132), Austin Sinetos (138), Cael Schindlbeck (145), Eddie Brown (160), Jackson Murphy (170), Alex Alfaro (182) and Braden Mansur (220).

Ottawa 53, Princeton 46
At Kingman Gym, the Corsairs' 16-9 second stanza proved to be the final margin in their nonconference win over Princeton.
Damon Bailey scored 16 points and swiped three steals to lead Ottawa (12-3). Luke Cushing added 14 points and had three steals as well. Braiden Miller contributed 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out four assists.
Streator 45, Herscher 39
At Pops Dale Gymnasium, the Bullpups trailed 13-9 after one quarter and 22-18 at halftime, but outscored the visiting Tigers 17-11 in the fourth quarter to earn the Illinois Central Eight Conference win.
Alexander Ward netted seven of his team-high 15 points for Streator in the final eight minutes, while Nolan Barr, Cade Stevens and Jake Luckey added seven points apiece.

The Ottawa Corsairs placed third in the Interstate Eight Conference meet.
Thoe Woodrum rolled a 926 series, which included a 201 game, to lead Ottawa. Landon McAlpine added an 899 series, which included a 203 game.
