Shepherd 7s win in overtime
Shepherd's seventh- and eighth-grade boys cagers split with Morris Saratoga, with the 7s winning in overtime 36-33 led by Julian Alexander's 17 points and six points apiece courtesy of AJ Phalen and Noah Gross to improve to 17-2. The Shepherd 8s fell to Saratoga, 54-37, despite Dejuan Dawson's 14 points, 10 from Keevon Peterson and Jack Henson's six.
Both teams fell to Pontiac — the 7s losing 32-12 (Gross six points), the 8s 48-38 (Peterson 10 points, Dawson 10 points, Garrett Shymanski six points).
Wallace boys win 3 of 4
Wallace's fifth-grade boys basketballers defeated first Oglesby Washington 33-17 (Jack Carroll 12 points, Rizon Contreras six points) and then Holy Cross 41-10 (Carroll 12 points, Lucas Craig eight points, Billy Besse and Bradyn Streicher six points each).
The Wallace 6s split vs. those teams — winning 34-16 over Washington (Joey Liebhart 17 points, Wyatt Stone eight) and falling 38-13 to Holy Cross.
Marquette spikers score wins
Marquette's junior-high volleyball teams defeated Streator Northlawn.
The seventh-graders won 25-18, 25-14, led by Kealey Rick (four aces, five assists), Maura Condon (eight points, four digs), Makayla Backos (seven points, two kills), Alyssa Zellers (five kills) and Avery Durdan (six assists).
The Marquette 8s won 24-26, 25-22, 25-22, paced by Grace Dose (13 points, seven assists), Maisie Lyons (10 points, six digs), Lily Craig (eight points, five aces), Natalie Dyche (six kills, nine assists) and Mary Lechtenberg (five kills, two blocks).
Wallace volleyball splits
Wallace's seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball teams split with Peru Parkside. The 8s won 28-26, 28-26, with Evola serving up 11 points and Lowery six. The 7s fell 25-21, 25-16 despite Leigh's seven service points.
Marseilles 6s get going
The Marseilles sixth-grade volleyball squad opened its season with a 25-11, 25-7 win over Grand Ridge (Emma Molina 10 points, Reagan Julian and Felicity Johnson seven apiece), then swept Seneca with a 25-22, 25-11 first team win (Julian seven points) and 25-23, 24-26, 15-13 second team triumph (Kalie Stanek 12 points, Emma Moline 10, Sapphire Tyson eight).
Marseilles then also swept Sandwich — the first team winning 25-8, 25-16 (Mary Diss 11 points, Reagon Julian and Emmalee Crosby six points); the second team 25-8, 25-15 (Molina 19 points).
Marquette 7s 1-2 in tourney
Marquette's seventh-grade boys cagers opened the Vermilion Conference North Tournament with a 35-20 win over Marseilles, led by Charlie McGrath's 15 points, Thomas Walsh's eight and Ashton Grady's six. Snyder with six led Marseilles.
Marquette then fell in action against Milton Pope 29-13 (McGrath seven points for Marquette; Giertz with 18 for Milton Pope) and Wallace 35-27 (Grady with 10 for Marquette; Rosetto with 14 for Wallace).
