AREA ROUNDUP: Streator linksters claim share of the Illinois Central Eight title

Earlville tops Somonauk on the pitch

STREATOR — The Streator Bulldogs varsity golf squad clinched at least a share of the Illinois Central Eight Conference championship with a 172-176 victory over Manteno here at Anderson Fields on Wednesday afternoon.

Jacob Magana and Cooper Wahl each fired off a score of 41 to lead the way, while Noah Colter, Trevor Sterling Austin Fairall each contributed 45s. Dane Winterowd added a season-best 46 for the 'Dogs, now 4-1 in the league.

Kaneland 150, Ottawa 165

At the Deer Park Country Club, the Pirates fell in the Interstate Eight Conference encounter, despite a team-best fourth-place score of 39 by T.J. McDonnell. That OHS total included Nick Angus with a 41, Kadon Harth a 42 and Caden Ericzon a 43. Also, Drake Stoudt and Jonathan Cooper each shot a 44.

Hinckley-Big Rock 187, Earlville 204

At the Earlville Country Club, Branson Vahl claimed medalist honors with a 38, but the Red Raiders fell in the Little Ten Conference dual.

Prairie Central 174, Seneca 176, Coal City 216, Marquette 220

At the Indian Creek Golf Course in Fairbury on Tuesday, Seneca's Holden Flynn posted a team-best 40, but the Irish came up just short of the winning hosts.

Also for Seneca, which moved to 10-3 on the season with this decision, Brett Yegge shot a 43, Austin Marshall 46 and Rylee Stenzel a 47.

Girls golf

Sandwich 198, Dwight 212, Plano 219

At the Dwight Country Club, the Lady Indians moved to 11-1 on the season by picking up two dual wins on the day, thanks in large part to a medalist 46 turned in by Alijah Campbell. Jillian Fuchs followed with a 49, Grace Donahue a 51 and Josie Gonzalez a 52 for the SHS team score. Also, Melody Goldstein shot a 70.


Earlville 6, Somonauk 4

At Somonauk, Jarred Fries collected a hat trick to pace the Red Raiders to the win. Devyn Kennedy, Jake Pickert and Jeremy Gomez each added a goal and Kyle Jungels an assist to the win.

For the Bobcats, who fell to 2-10, 0-3 on the year, Trevor Vandermeer had a pair of goals, Jon Matejovsky a goal and an assist and Carter Andrews a goal. Payton Wyant chipped in two assists and Noah Gabrys one in the loss.


Flanagan-Cornell def. Fisher, 25-13, 25-11

At Flanagan on Tuesday, the Lady Falcons got nine kills and three digs from Kayla VanWeelden and seven kills, five aces and four digs from Regan Reed to lift them to 13-6-1 overall, 2-1 in the Heart of Illinois Conference.

Kortney Harms chipped in three kills and nine assists and Taylor Reed six assists in the win.

JV girls tennis

Ottawa 4, La Salle-Peru 1

At Ottawa, Jenna Smithmeyer won the No. 2 singles match 10-1, while in doubles, Kyra Mitchell/Grace Satterfield won 10-1, Olivia Long/Cora Sisk were a 10-7 victor and Isabel Heimsoth/Madison Loneback took a 10-3 decision.

Kyleigh Olszewski fell 10-1 at No. 1 singles for Ottawa (5-0, 3-0).

JV golf

Kaneland 179, Ottawa 196

At the Deer Park Country Club, the Corsairs fell despite a 46 by Blaine Koppen. Michael Bruner added a 49, Tyce Love a 50 and Abi Claus a 51 in the loss.

Manteno 213, Streator 224

At Anderson Fields in Streator, Adam Williamson's 52 led the Bullpups, while Adam Jacupcak carded a 54, Mason Adkins a 56 and Chris Scarber a 62. Elly Bedecker shot a 69.
