AREA ROUNDUP: Flanagan-Cornell tops Fieldcrest in HOIC tilt

Woodland, Serena also earn conference victories

MINONK — The Flanagan-Cornell Lady Falcons defeated the Fieldcrest Knights in two sets, 28-26, 25-22 in a Heart of Illinois Conference volleyball contest Thursday night.

Kayla VanWeelden pounded out 11 kills to lead the F-C (14-6-1 overall, 3-1 HOIC) attack. Kortney Harms fingerpushed 11 assists and Taylor Reed 10. Regan Reed came up with 14 digs and VanWeelden 13 to pace the defense.

For Fieldcrest (8-2, 2-2), Alyx Carls had eight kills and 11 digs, and Zada Baker 12 assists.

Sycamore def. Ottawa 25-14, 25-12

At Sycamore, the Lady Pirates were beaten in straight sets by the Spartans in an Interstate Eight Conference match.

Manteno def. Streator 25-14, 25-7

At Manteno, the Bulldogs Spikers (5-15, 0-6) were beaten in straight sets by the Panthers in an Illinois Central Eight Conference match.

Skyler Bedeker and Natali Haynes each had a pair of kills for Streator. Josie Cole had two assists. Maddie Barichello had seven digs.

Woodland def. Henry-Senachwine 29-27, 30-28

At Henry, the Warriors edged the Lady Mallards in both sets of their Tri-County Conference contest.

Ella Sibert pounded out eight kills and Audrey Jenkins a half dozen to lead the Woodland attack. Makenna Tkach fingerpushed 10 assists. Kaitlyn Walter came up with 21 digs to pace the defense.

Serena def. LaMoille-Ohio 25-20, 25-21

At Serena, the Lady Huskers (8-6, 3-0) defeated the Lady Lions in two sets in a Little Ten Conference match.

Paige Sexton pounded out 10 kills and served up four aces to lead the Serena attack. Lyla Thorpen fingerpushed 13 assists. Katie Baker came up with six digs to pace the defense.

Indian Creek def. Somonauk 25-12, 28-26

At Somonauk, the Lady Bobcats (3-7-2, 2-2) lost in two sets to the Timberwolves in an LTC match.

For Somonauk, Katy Tripp had six kills and two digs, McKenna Dayhuff three kills and Sydney Johnson five assists.

Boys soccer

Streator 3, Limestone 1

At Bartonville, the Bulldogs (12-2-1) defeated the Rockets in a nonconference match.

Mason Telford netted a hat trick to lead Streator. Sawyer Good and Tommy Kress notched a pair of assists apiece. Damian Simmons tallied one assist.

Max Baker made 12 saves in net.

Earlville 4, Hinckley-Big Rock 3

At Earlville, the Red Raiders edged the Royals in a Little Ten Conference contest.

Jarred Fries netted a pair of goals to lead Earlville. Landon Larkin and Deyvn Kennedy each added a goal. Johann Rico, Jake Pickert and Logan Wesson all tallied an assist.

Sycamore 5, Sandwich 0

At Sycamore, the Indians (5-7-2, 1-3-2) were blanked by the Spartans in an Interstate Eight Conference match.

Sead Sejdiu had 13 saves for Sandwich.

Rochelle 4, Ottawa 0

At King Field, the Pirates (7-4) couldn't find the back of the net in the Interstate Eight Conference loss to the Hubs.

Boys golf

Seneca 175, Woodland 198

At Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris, the Fighting Irish beat the Warriors in a Tri-County Conference meet.

Brett Yegge shot a 38 to lead Seneca. He was followed by Holden Flynn (44), Austin Marshall (46), Rylee Stenzel (47) and AJ Stiegler (47).

Somonauk 165, Earlville 200

At Earlville Country Club, the Bobcats beat the Red Raiders in a Little Ten Conference dual meet.

Tyler Jansen shot a 38 to lead Somonauk. Branson Vahl carded a 35 to earn medalist honors for Earlville.

Newark-Serena 162, Sandwich 199

At Prairie Lakes Golf Course in Marseilles, the Norsemen beat the Indians in a nonconference dual meet.

Connor Baker carded a 37 to earn medalist honors and lead Newark-Serena. He was followed by Porter Arneson (39), Dylan Cartwright (43) and Cam Figgins (43).

For Sandwich, Michael Barbey shot a 48, Sam Dawson a 49, Elliott Underhile a 50 and Ryan Pruski a 52.

Seneca 162, Putnam County 163, Midland 233

At Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris on Wednesday, the Fighting Irish edged the Panthers and beat the Timberwolves in a T-CC triangular meet.

Holden Flynn carded a 38 to share medalist honors and lead Seneca. He was followed by Rylee Stenzel (41), Alex Stiegler (41) and Brett Yegge (42).

Girls tennis

Morris 4, Streator 1

At Morris, the Lady Bulldogs were beaten by the Redskins in a meet.

Posting Streator's win was Alyssa Heilman at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-4 over Libby Wright).

Streator's No. 3 doubles team of Sam Reeland and Katelyn Coons were defeated in a third-set tiebreaker (6-4, 4-6, 10-3) by Tera McCormick and Terri Silva.

JUCO women's tennis

IVCC 7, DuPage 2

At Glen Ellyn on Wednesday, the Lady Eagles beat the College of DuPage in a match.

Posting singles wins for IVCC were Michelle Windy at No. 1, Nena Perry at No. 3, Karlee Arjes at No. 4 and Isabelle Lueck at No. 6. Notching doubles victories were Windy and Perry at No. 1, Grace Flipiak and Arjes at No. 2, and Streator High School graduate Jennifer Romero and Lueck at No. 3.

At River Grove on Wednesday, the Eagles were blanked by Triton College in a match.
