A Wenona man and a DeKalb man were arrested Tuesday in a cocaine bust in La Salle.
Both Tyler W. Dennis, 24, Wenona, and Maceo M. Johnston, 22, DeKalb, were charged with unlawful delivery of cocaine and are being held at La Salle County Jail — with bond set at $500,000, meaning both need $50,000 for release.
Police said they conducted a controlled purchase of less than 1 gram of purported cocaine on the 900 block of Third Street in La Salle. Dennis and Johnston left the area in a vehicle and were stopped by La Salle police, then taken into custody. The Tri-DENT team was assisted by La Salle police and Peru Special Investigations in the arrests.
Dennis will appear in Judge H. Chris Ryan's courtroom next Thursday, Oct. 10, saying he will hire a private attorney. Johnston is scheduled to appear again in Ryan's courtroom Friday, Oct. 18, after a public defender was appointed to him.
If convicted, the felony charges could lead to a three to seven year prison sentence, or fines not to exceed $25,000, for each of them.
