Mary Schaibley

Mary Schaibley, 88, of Ottawa passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 at Pleasant View Luther Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 at St. Columba Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 15 at Ottawa Funeral Home, with prayers at 3:45 by Deacon Mike Driscoll. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery.

She was born Mary Margaret Donahue January 11, 1931 to John and Anne (Clark) Donahue. She was raised in Wallace Township with brothers John, Francis, Tom, Nick, and Earl; and sisters, Claire, Ivis, and Josephine. She graduated from St. Xavier's (Marquette) High School. She worked in LaSalle County Magistrate Court, at Nourie Accounting, and Green Hill Publishing. She was the long time St. Columba School Board Secretary, was active in the PTO, and volunteered in the reading assistance program at the school. She served as a leader in Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. She was a volunteer at Community Hospital of Ottawa following her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary wed the love of her life Harold "Dutch" Schaibley September 20, 1952; he passed away August 17, 2013. They were married for 60 years.

She is survived by her four children, Stephen of Blackstone, Susan (Michael) Barbaglia of Indianapolis, Paul (Rosie) of Ottawa, and Edward (Teresa) of Marseilles; nineteen grandchildren, Stephannie and Antony Schaibley, Jacob and Laura Navarro, Sarah Nanouski, Michelle Hudkins, Elizabeth Johnson, Melissa Wright, Claire, Evan, and Emily Schaibley, Dustin Torres, Gabe, Mark, Elizabeth, and Kate Barbaglia, Erin Walker, Jessica Rodriguez, and Hannah Olman; 29 great-grandchildren; brother, Earl (Phillis) Donahue; sister, Josephine (Bill) Parrott; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Antony, Austin, Evan, and Zander Schaibley, Jacob and Peyton Navarro, Tommy Nanouski, and Dustin Torres.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Columba Building Fund.
