Death in house fire ruled a homicide

Authorities have deemed the death of a 39-year-old woman in a May 14 Verona house fire a homicide.

Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley in correlation with Grundy County Coroner John Callahan announced in a press release Monday the cause of death of Verona resident Elizabeth Ann Link has been deemed a homicide.

At 5:40 a.m. May 14, deputies responded to a house fire at Link's residence at 3200 S. Verona Road. Link's body was discovered inside the residence, and an autopsy was completed later that day along with toxicology tests.

At the request of Briley, the Will/Grundy Major Crimes Task Force was activated along with the Illinois State Fire Marshal and MABIS-IL Division 15 Fire Investigators to investigate the fire and death.

Authorities said this is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Grundy County Sheriff's Office at 815-942-0336, or report anonymously to Crimestoppers at 815-942-9667.
