A defendant in an Ottawa battery case has been found mentally unfit.
Lamont C. Adams, 20, was charged in September with going into his neighbor's yard and repeatedly punching the neighbor, a man older than 60. The victim had minor injuries. At a court hearing last week, Circuit Judge Cynthia Raccuglia ruled Adams was mentally unfit for trial, based on a psychiatric report.
Adams is to be sent to the Illinois Department of Human Services for treatment. His status will be checked at a hearing Thursday, April 18.
At a hearing before Raccuglia in October, Adams wore restraints on his wrists and ankles for extra security. Defendants in county custody, during court appearances, are normally restrained at either the wrists or ankles, not both.
