A Streator murder case was to go to trial Tuesday, but was instead reset two weeks.
Tamil Adams, 17, of Dolton, is charged with murdering Maria De la Torre during a robbery May 22 at her Streator home. Trial was to begin Tuesday with jury selection, but Prosecutor Greg Sticka asked for more time because of issues with a witness.
One of the defense attorneys, Paul Meyers, of Chicago, objected to the delay, but Chief Judge H. Chris Ryan Jr. granted Sticka's request, rescheduling trial to Monday, Feb. 4, with a pretrial hearing Friday, Feb. 1.
Hashim Waite, 25, and Ashanti Roberts, 21, both Chicago, are also charged with the murder. Waite's next hearing is Friday and Roberts' is Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Adams' defense attorneys have said they believe Waite will testify against Adams. Last week, the attorneys asked Ryan's permission to bring up Waite's criminal history during cross-examination of Waite; the request has not yet been addressed.
