EL PASO — The fourth-seeded Fieldcrest Knights beat the No. 13 seed Lexington Minutemen 67-28 in the opening round of the Heart of Illinois Conference/McLean County Tournament on Monday afternoon.

Derek May scored a dozen points to pace Fieldcrest (16-5), which advances on to face LeRoy in Tuesday's quarterfinals.

Eureka 65, Flanagan-Cornell 59

At El Paso, the Falcons were defeated by the No. 7 seed Hornets in the opening round of the HOIC/McLean Co. Tourney.

Karson Kimpling had 27 points for Flanagan-Cornell (13-9). Jeremy Durdan had 15 points.

Girls basketball

Sandwich 62, Streator 32

At Coal City, the Class 3A No. 8 state-rated and undefeated Lady Indians beat the Lady Bulldogs in the quarterfinals of the Interstate Eight Conference Tournament.

Streator led 11-7 after the opening eight minutes of play. Sandwich outscored the Lady Bulldogs 46-15 over the next two quarters.

Claire Roberts scored 19 points to lead the Lady Indians. Jaylynn Vana and Josie Ness added a dozen and 11 points, respectively.

Natali Haynes had 13 points for Streator.

Sandwich will face Peotone in the semifinals Wednesday night.

Fieldcrest 43, Tremont 42

At El Paso, Alyx Carls knocked down a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left, and the sixth-seeded Lady Knights edged the No. 11 seed Turks in the opening round of the Heart of Illinois Conference/McLean County Tournament.

Addie Goodrich scored 15 points — which included a trio of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter — to lead Fieldcrest. Hannah Baker added 10 points.

The Lady Knights (17-8) will face third-seeded Lexington in the quarterfinals Tuesday night.

Wrestling

Indians runners-up, Streator's Pantoja 5th in I-8 Meet

At Wilmington, the Sandwich Indians were runners-up as a team behind champion Coal City, while Streator's Rafael Pantoja finished fifth individually in the rescheduled Interstate Eight Conference Tournament.

Individually for Sandwich, Cael Schindlbeck claimed the title at 138 pounds, while Evan Reilly (106), Tyler Schindlbeck (120), Jackson Murphy (160) and Wyatt Murphy (182) were all runners-up.

Aidan Linden (126), Braulio Flores (132), Dylan Limon (145), Shane Reilly (152) and Braden Mansur (285) all placed third.

Girls bowling

Streator 2,461, St. Bede 2,443

The Lady Bulldogs edged the Lady Bruins for their 10th win of the season.

Hallie Ligori rolled a 456 series to lead Streator. Kaylee Sroka had a high game of 180.

Freshman girls basketball

Ottawa 40, Rochelle 31

At Rochelle, Grace Satterfield scored 11 points to lead the Lady Vikings (16-0) to the NIB 12 West win over Rochelle. Molly Buscher, Lainey Billings and Brooke Waddell added eight points apiece.
