AREA ROUNDUP: Newark and Earlville earn LTC triumphs

NEWARK — The Newark Lady Norsemen beat the Leland Panthers in straight games, 25-5, 25-10 in a Little Ten Conference match Thursday night.

Megan Williams pounded out seven kills to lead the Newark attack. Meggie Scott served up six aces and Naomi Sweeney four. Sweeney and Scott also led the defense by coming up with seven and six digs, respectively.

Earlville def. Somonauk 25-15, 25-16

At Somonauk, the Raiders beat the Lady Bobcats in straight games in an LTC match.

Alex Koontz pounded out 10 kills to lead the Earlville (15-5, 6-1) attack. Kylie Koontz and Jadyn Pickert added seven and six kills, respectively. Kelsey Chapman fingerpushed 22 assists. Kylie Koontz served up a trio of aces as well. Meghann Harness led the defense by coming up with 12 digs.

For Somonauk (2-16, 1-7), McKenna Dayhuff had three kills and Grace Gozder 10 digs.

La Salle-Peru def. Ottawa 25-12, 25-14

At Kingman Gym, the Lady Cavaliers topped the Lady Pirates on senior night in straight sets in their Northern Illinois Big 12 West Division match. No other details were made available at press time.

Sandwich def. Reed-Custer 25-11, 25-23

At Sandwich, the Lady Indians beat the Lady Comets in straight games in an Interstate Eight Conference match.

Audrey Rome pounded out six kills and put up three blocks and Abby Ripsky five kills and two blocks to lead Sandwich (13-12, 3-6). Ava Knepper posted a team-high 15 assists. Jaylynn Vana led the defense by coming up with 10 digs.

Flanagan-Cornell def. Heyworth 25-20, 25-19

At Flanagan, the Lady Falcons defeated the Lady Hornets in two sets in a Heart of Illinois Conference match.

Rachel Harrison and Molly Garretson pounded out four kills apiece to pace the Flanagan-Cornell (19-9-1, 8-4) attack. Alexis Howell registered six assists and Madelyn Forney four. Harrison led the defense by coming up with 14 digs.

Fieldcrest def. Lexington 25-11, 26-24

At Lexington, the Knights beat the Lady Minutemen in an HOIC match.

Emma Peterson pounded out five kills and came up with nine digs to lead Fieldcrest (21-7). Lexi Jochums fingerpushed nine assists. Alaina Tjaden served up a trio of aces.
