Incumbent U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger took nearly 80 percent of the votes in the Republican Party race against David Hale.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting at press time, the Associated Press stated Kinzinger had 55,781 votes to Hale's 15,319.

Shortly before 9 p.m., Kinzinger released a statement after being declared the victor in the 16th Congressional District:

"I'm overwhelmed and humbled by today's incredible show of support by the voters of the 16th District. While we face many challenges, I have never been more confident that we as a nation possess the pride and tenacity to triumph in these struggles. It's time to roll up our sleeves, get to work, and Renew America so that we leave the next generation a country that is stronger, more prosperous and more free."
