MORRIS — The Streator baseball team had mixed results in their doubleheader against Morris on Saturday as the Bulldogs won the opener 12-4, but dropped the second game 12-5.
In Game 1, Morris tallied four times in the second inning, but Streator exploded for 12 runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a 3-run home run by Daniel Gonzalez. James McGurk had a two-run double, Jacob Bemont a two-run single with Kyle Cantrell and Vern McKinley adding RBI hits in the game-changing frame for SHS. Cade Dutko recorded three hits, including a double in the win, which was earned on the mound in relief by McKinley (3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K), who finished things up for starter Trevor Sember (2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K).
Streator (3-2) had a 5-2 lead in the third inning of Game 2, but from there Morris crossed the plate 10 times over its final four times at bat to earn the split. Joey Byers (RBI) and Mitch Vickers each doubled for the Bulldogs, while Zack Grabowski, Sember and losing pitcher Hunter Telford (4 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) each drove in a run.
Ridgeview 8, WFC 4
At Colfax, the Warriors were defeated by the Mustangs in a nonconference game.
Collin Hjerpe (two runs scored) and Kyle Voytko (2-for-3) had a pair of hits for Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell (1-3). Jake Albertson had a run batted in. Chandler Hillebrenner (3 IP, 6 R, 5 ER, 8 H, 3 BB, 4 K) took the pitching loss.
Eureka 7, Streator 1
Prairie Central 9, Streator 8 (9 inn.)
At Eureka, the Lady Bulldogs (1-5) lost to the Hornets and the Hawks.
Streator fell 7-1 to ICA Class 2A No. 6 state-ranked Eureka. Maddie Barichello (double), Alivia Adkins (run batted in) and Mallory Aukland accounted for the three Lady Bulldog hits. Ellie Magana (6 IP, 7 R, 0 ER, 9 H, 1 BB, 8 K) suffered the pitching loss.
Streator was edged 9-8 in nine innings by Prairie Central. Grace Schmitz went 3-for-5 at the plate with a triple, double and three RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs. Aubrey Durdan had a pair of hits. Megan Gubbels brought in two runners. Magana (4 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 1 K) was charged with the loss in relief of starter Durdan (5 IP, 4 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K).

Lady Bulldogs finish 2nd at Mendota
At Mendota on Thursday, Streator scored 56 points to finish second to Winnebago (147) and just ahead of the host Lady Trojans (55) at the five-team meet.
The Lady Bulldogs received first-place finishes from Alexis Berg in the 400-meter run (1 minute, 6.2 seconds) and Rebecca Neaterour in the 3200 (13:00). Placing second for Streator were Ali Talty (100 hurdles, :17.68), Leticia Cruz (200, :29.08), Liset Guadarrama (3200, 14:00), Neaterour (1600, 6:00.74) and the 400 relay team of Cruz, Talty, Berg and Lyniah Anderson (:54.9).
Pole vaulters lead OHS boys at Shipley Invite
At the Gene Shipley Invite hosted by Moline High School at Browning Field and Wharton Fieldhouse on Saturday, Ottawa's Ethan Harsted won the A pole vault with an effort of 13 feet even, pacing the Pirates to 40 points and seventh place in that portion.
In the B part of the meet, best for OHS came from Amonte Ulmer, who was second in the pole vault at 9 feet. Ottawa was seventh with 25 points.
Likewise, in the C portion, Marco Serna claimed third in that same even with a vault of 8-0. Again, the Pirates were seventh, this time with 16 points

At Galesburg, the Eagles (5-7, 0-4) were swept by Carl Sandburg College in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader.
IVCC was edged 5-4 in the opener. Fieldcrest High School graduate Lauren Tjaden (7 IP, 5 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 4 K) was dealt the pitching loss.
IVCC was defeated 7-4 in the second game. Streator High School alumna Brenna McCann took the loss in the circle.
Ottawa 9, Metamora 8

At Ottawa, the Corsairs won a pair of games by identical scores.
Ottawa defeated Metamora 9-8. Kadon Harth went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in to lead the Corsairs' offense. Anthony Cooper was 2-for-3. Ty Trovero plated a trio of runners. John Vandervort (6 ER, 4 K) went the distance on the mound to get the win.
Ottawa got a walk-off single by T.J. McDonnell in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Normal West 9-8. Keegan Sarver (2-for-3) and McDonnell (three RBIs) had a pair of hits apiece to lead the Corsairs' offense. Evan Evola drove in three runs as well. Addis (4 ER, 5 K) pitched five innings.
Morris 10, Streator 6
At SHS Athletic Fields, Mason Telford (double) and Christian Bedeker (three runs batted in) had a pair of hits apiece for Streator (3-1) during its loss to Morris. Mason Benning had a double. Payton Benning (4 IP, 7 R, 7 H) took the pitching loss.
