AP analysis: Blacks largely left out among high-paying jobs

On Feb. 12, during the 50th anniversary of the historic Memphis Sanitation Strike, thousands walk off their jobs demanding a $15 minimum wage and a union. The 1968 strike, which lasted nine weeks, became a symbol for the civil rights movement and economic justice. It is also what brought Martin Luther King to the city, where he was assassinated at the height of the strike on April 4, 1968, on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel.
