Born Aug. 31, 1938, in Streator, he was the son of Anthony “Tony” and Bernadine (Seipp) Harcar.  He married Jo Ann Voights on Aug. 22, 1959, in Streator. She preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 2008.

He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Gary) Finkelstein, of Streator; a son, Robert J. Born and raised in Streator, Bob attended St. Stephen’s Grade School and graduated from Streator High School. He later attended and graduated from Mid-West Barber College in Peoria.

He served in the Illinois National Guard.

He was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and currently belonged to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Bob owned and operated Bob’s Barber Shop in Streator for 57 years, retiring this past July. He was an iconic figure in Streator for almost six decades, touching people's lives as not only their barber, but also as their friend. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. Bob’s favorite line when someone left the Barber Shop was “keep it growing” or “keep your powder dry.”

Bob was always touched by the outpouring of kindness, concern and prayers for him and his family, especially during his battle with cancer. He greatly appreciated the medical community for his care.

The family asks to always follow his example by helping others, picking up garbage, and being thankful for what you have. One sentence repeatedly said by Bob throughout his whole life and especially during his illness is that he was truly blessed, and he was.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
