PITTSBURGH — Streator native, 2012 Streator High graduate and baseball outfield prospect Ryan Nagle has been released from the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, the website PiratesProspects.com reported Thursday morning.
The right-handed-throwing, left-handed-hitting Nagle was a 27th-round draft pick of the Pirates in 2015 and signed to a six-digit, overslot bonus after a standout junior season at the University of Illinois. He spent time with the big-league Pirates during 2016 spring training, playing at the short-season and low-A level in West Virginia during the regular season.
In 2017, Nagle was held in extended spring training before batting .269 in 55 Class A games. For his affiliated minor league career in the Pirates farm system, he batted .255 in 698 at-bats with five home runs and 77 RBIs.
