STARVED ROCK CIVIL WAR ROUND TABLE
The Starved Rock Civil War Round Table met March 21 at Ottawa High School with 38 in attendance.
Debbie Snook presented a program on the Civil War experiences of La Salle County native Emra Strait. A resident of the Newark area, Strait enlisted in the 36th Illinois for three years at Camp Hammond near Aurora. During his time in the Union Army, he saw action at Pea Ridge, Perryville, Stones River, Chickamouga, Franklin and numerous other battles. Although wounded numerous times, Strait survived the war and died in 1939 at the age of 97.
Scott Wallace, Debbie Snook, Drew Jessen, Phyllis Revell, Chuck Sanders, Pete Snook, Keith Stevenson and Carol Wenzel won Lincoln book door prizes.
The next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at OHS. Scott Buennemeyer will present a program on Winfield Scott. Anyone interested in the Civil War is welcome.
