AREA ROUNDUP: Marquette blanks IC; Ottawa falls to Pontiac

SHABBONA — Marquette Academy used a combined three-hit shutout pitching performance from winning pitcher Max Mitchell, Bryce Foster and Shane Reynolds to blank host Indian Creek 8-0 Thursday afternoon. The Crusaders scored two in the third, one in the fourth and put up a five-spot in the sixth.
Mitchell started and allowed three hits and struck out one, Foster fanned four in two innings, and Reynolds struck out the side in the seventh to improve the Crusaders to 5-0 on the season. Logan Komater recorded three hits and two RBIs, Nate Melvin had two singles and an RBI, and Jack Snook added a sacrifice fly for MA.
Pontiac 5, Ottawa 2
At Pontiac, Nathan Wietzel had two hits, including a double, John Bruner doubled, and Drew Doerman was the losing pitcher for the Pirates in their road loss to the Indians.
Gardner-South Wilmington 5, WFC 3
At rural Streator, the Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Panthers plated four runs in the third to take the lead for good and dropped WFC to 1-1 on the year.
Alex Redd and Clayton Sibert each had RBI singles, while Chandler Hillebrenner doubled for the hosts. Kyle Voytko took the pitching loss despite giving up just two earned runs on seven hits over six innings of work while walking one and striking out five.
WFC 10, Gardner-South Wilmington 0 (5 inn.)
At rural Streator, the Lady Warriors scored three runs in the first, four in the second and two more in the third to eventually roll to a 10-run-rule victory over the Panthers.
Shea Moritz (5 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 9 K) earned the shutout in the circle, while leadoff hitter Elise Kane went 4-for-4 with a home run and a trio of RBIs. Emily Friese had two doubles and two RBIs for WFC (2-1), with Kylie Kindermann and Moritz also driving in single tallies. 
Seneca 4, Putnam County 1
At Granville, the Lady Irish improved to 4-1 on the season with the road win over the Lady Panthers.
Cassidy Draves (RBI) had a triple and home run for Seneca, while Anne Krull added a pair of singles plus earned the complete-game win in the circle after allowing no earned runs on six hits while fanning nine without a walk. Britney Helms — who reached base three times and stole three bases — and Claudia Morris each knocked in a run. 
Somonauk 6, Sandwich 2
At Somonauk, Tayler Fall went 3-for-3 with three RBIs at the plate and allowed just four hits, one earned run and fanned three in the circle to help lead the Lady Bobcats to the victory over the Lady Indians. Jessica Christiansen had two hits, Lauren Kawall a RBI single, and Avery Sexton a pair of stolen bases for Somonauk (4-0).
Casey Delphey had a single, double and RBI for Sandwich, while starting pitcher Grace Schmidt (4 IP, 2 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 1 K) took the loss.
Metamora 6, Fieldcrest 5
At Metamora, the Lady Knights lost by a run on the road. Emma Lorton was the losing pitcher for Fieldcrest.
Track and Field
Seven firsts lead Lady Pirates to quad win
At King Field, Ottawa scored 104 1/2 points to best runner-up Sandwich (83 1/2), Morris (60) and Joliet Catholic (11) in its first home meet of the year.
The Lady Pirates received winning performances from Rachel Mueller (1600-meter run, 6 minutes, 19 seconds), Grace Reinhardt (200, :28.59; high jump, 4 feet, 10 inches), Savanna Bartelmey (pole vault, 6-6), Sam Satterfield (shot put, 36-4) and discus (111-1) and the 3200 relay team.
Second-place marks for OHS came from Grace McGettigan (800), Toni Edwards-Froisland (300 hurdles), Abby Quinn (triple jump), Jessiy Zebrauskas (high jump), Ashleigh Sealley (pole vault), Erika Fox (shot put), Jayden Mussatto (discus) and 1600 relay. Posting thirds for the Lady Pirates were Emily Walker (300 hurdles), Zebrauskas (long jump), Faith Klein (pole vault) and both the 400 and 800 relays. 
Sandwich had six first-place finishes from the 400 relay team (Sarah Ness, Ezeydy Rivera, Jillian Fuchs, Maddie Dawson - :54.18); 1600 relay (Claire Roberts, Fuchs, Amanda Stacks, Dawson - 4:36.31); Ness (100 hurdles, :17.40 and 300 hurdles :56.18), Dawson (400, 1:00.78) and Rivera (triple jump, 29-3). 
Sophomore/JV baseball
Ottawa 2, Pontiac 1
At Ottawa, starter Jace Addis (5 1/3 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 8 K) and reliever Ty Trovero (1 2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K) pitched the Corsairs to the victory over the Indians.
Evan Evola doubled in a run, and Keegan Sarver singled in another, while Kadon Harth tripled for Ottawa.
Streator 9, Putnam County 5
At Granville, Christian Bedeker (double) and Drew Schmitt had three hits and an RBI to help the Bullpups (1-0) defeat the Panthers. Payton Benning doubled, while Logan Williamson and Andrew Gotch each had a hit and two RBIs. Schmitt earned the win (6 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 K) with Mason Telford hurling the final inning in relief, including getting out of a bases loaded jam to end it.
Sophomore/JV softball
Ottawa 12, Streator 3
At Peck Park, Lauren Carlson went 3-for-3 and also earned the complete-game win, with Emma Haage adding a pair of hits for the Lady Corsairs.
La Salle-Peru 16, Marquette 1
At La Salle, Natalie Cruise had the only hit and RBI for the Lady Crusaders, while Lauren Rayburn suffered the pitching loss.
