ON CAMPUS: Ruff leads IWU in the Peach State

Illinois Wesleyan University junior and former Woodland High School golf standout Olivia Ruff shot well over the weekend at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Classic in Georgia.

The Titans finished 14th of the 23 teams at the event as Ruff lead the squad with a tie for 37th individually after carding a three-round score of 239 (78-83-78) on the par-72 course.


Pitcher Hunter Simon (Fr., Seneca) has made three appearances for Illinois Wesleyan University (8-3), going 0-1 in three innings pitched and six strikeouts.

Christian Jones (Sr., Serena) has pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing a hit and fanning one for Monmouth College (8-5-1) so far this season.

Millikin University is currently 8-4 on the season, with shortstop Seth Coffey (Sr., Ottawa) hitting .341 with three doubles, a home run and seven RBIs and relief pitcher Brandon Viken (Jr., Seneca) registering two strikeouts in two innings pitched.

Rockford University is off to a slow start at 0-8, but catcher Bryce Hinkelman (Sr., Marquette) leads the team with a .484 batting average, including two doubles and two home runs, while driving in seven runs. Pitcher Dalton Morris (Sr., Marquette) has struck out 11 batters in 6 2/3 innings for the Regents.

Infielders Adam Brown (Fr., Streator) and Brady Sember (Woodland) are hitting .400 and .333, respectively, for Knox College (2-7).

Karter Lowery (Fr., Ottawa) is hitting .308 with a double, two triples and four RBIs in four games played for Heartland Community College (12-3), which is ranked No. 9 in the most recent NJCAA Division II poll.


Millkin University went 2-2 at the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Molly Angell (Sr., Ottawa), and her No. 1 doubles partner, earned a 8-3 victory in the Blue Blue's 6-3 triumph over Messiah College.


University of Indianapolis' T.J. LeSeure (So., Ottawa) finished 13th in the 200-meter breaststroke (2 minutes, 0.75 seconds) at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina over the weekend to earn All-American Honorable Mention honors. He also placed 17th in the 100 breaststroke (:54.82) to help the Greyhounds finish third overall as a team of the 34 qualifying schools at the event. UI's previous highest finish at the championships was eighth set back in the 2004.


Pitcher Maggie McGurk (Fr., Streator) has made nine appearances, including a pair of starts, for the University of Toledo (14-12) this season. She has an ERA of 2.28 in 15 1/3 innings pitched with eight strikeouts.

Joliet Junior College pitcher Rachel Sangston (Fr., Seneca) has made four starts and is 3-0 with three complete games and an ERA of 4.07. In 22 1/3 innings, Sangston has walked just six and fanned 14. Last Thursday she hurled a five-inning, four-hit shutout against Kellogg to help improve the Wolves to 8-6 on the season.

Mikayla Greenwood (Sr., Streator) has played in 10 games for Illinois College (6-6) so far this season and has recorded four hits, including a pair of doubles, and four RBIs.

Lake Land College (22-11) has won 15 of its last 17 games, and Delanie Johnson (Fr., Streator) leads the Lakers with 11 doubles and 41 RBIs. In 32 games, Johnson is hitting .408 with four home runs, with three of those coming in consecutive games last week. She has also recorded a hit in 16 of the last 17 games and had a streak of 10 straight games driving in at least one run. Rachael Quaritsch (Fr., Flanagan-Cornell) has played in six games for LLC and is 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs. Pitcher Samantha Forrest (Fr., La Salle-Peru) is 2-0 with a save in five appearances (two starts, 14 innings pitched) and has an ERA of 3.00.
