Operators returned Exelon's La Salle County Generating Station Unit 1 to service last week following a scheduled refueling outage that began Feb. 19.The unit was reconnected to the power grid at 5:34 p.m. March 14 and reached full power the evening of March 16.
During the outage, workers performed more than 14,000 detailed inspections, maintenance activities and equipment upgrades. Replacing and updating equipment on an ongoing basis ensures the plant can provide electricity for years to come.
This refueling outage also introduced Digital Plant Viewer, a new tool designed to improve planning and in-field execution, resulting in greater efficiency and accuracy, according to an Exelon press release.
“Refueling outages are critical in assuring plant safety and long-term equipment reliability,” said Site Vice President Bill Trafton in a press statement. “We embrace using new and innovative technology like Digital Plant Viewer to continue providing energy that keeps homes warm in the cold winter months and cool during the summer.”
