Ottawa Kiwanis met March 12 at First Presbyterian Church. President Lloyd Chapman opened the meeting. Ken Gunderson gave the prayer.
Chapman read a thank you from Riker Fesperman, who finished second at La Salle County Spelling Bee. He also received a letter from local Scouts asking for a donation for a Jamboree. Brian Huebner talked about Ottawa YMCA, which is going to put banners in the gym of organizations and businesses that make donations.
Lana Gore introduced the speaker, Laurie Welch, who is the director of the Illinois Valley Brain Injury Clubhouse in Streator. They also sponsor a support group in Ottawa. The members who have been in accidents or have had strokes meet daily and to do memory games, exercises, cooking and social skills. The local Clubhouse has served 70 to 75 people so far. The group meets once a month. Manager Hailey Ross went over the day-to-day operation of the Clubhouse.
The next meeting will be at noon Monday, March 19 at First Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. Prospective new members are welcome. For more information, call Chapman at 815-433-2111.
