A jailed La Salle man, who is facing gun charges, failed Friday in his bid for lower bond.
Christian E. Leek, 23, is charged with stealing a .38-caliber revolver during the burglary of a Cedar Point home Feb. 20, then being found with the gun two days later, drunken, at a Peru bar. Leek has a felony theft conviction, so he also was charged with being a felon in possession of a gun.
Leek's attorney, Kurt Gustafson, asked Circuit Judge Cynthia Raccuglia at a hearing Friday, to reduce Leek's bond, which is $7,500 cash. In support, Gustafson said Leek is employed, provides for a child and is seeking treatment for alcohol abuse. In opposition, Prosecutor Jeremiah Adams pointed out the circumstances of Leek's arrest put police in danger, with the "very good likelihood someone was going to get shot" in the encounter.
Raccuglia refused to cut bond.
