AREA ROUNDUP: Patrick, Pohar headline area stars receiving honors

A number of Times area athletes and coaches have been honored over the past couple days for their achievements on the basketball court:
 
Boys basketball
Patrick, Snook, Durdan get all-state honors
Newark's Dylan Patrick received all-state honors on both the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Class 1A/2A All-State Team and the Associated Press (AP) Class 1A All-State Team. The Newark senior was the area's top selection on both teams, earning one of 15 Second Team spots from the IBCA and one of five Second Team spots from the AP. Patrick averaged 24.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists for the Little Ten champion Norsemen.
Marquette junior Jack Snook and Flanagan-Cornell junior Jeremy Durdan both earned IBCA All-State Special Mention.
Ridgeview of the HOIC saw Jacob Donaldson earn an IBCA First Team spot. Three players from Chicago Orr, playing for the Class 2A state title tonight, also ended up on the IBCA's First Team — Dannie Smith, Raikwon Conditt and Ty Mosley.
 
Girls basketball
IBCA also honors Coach Scott
Newark head girls basketball coach Barb Scott was honored as an Illinois Basketball Coach of the Year selection. Her Lady Norsemen posted a 23-7 record and won a regional championship in 2017-18.
 
JUCO women's basketball
Pohar named Arrowhead MVP
Illinois Valley Community College women's basketball player Julia Pohar was named the Most Valuable Player of the Arrowhead Conference after leading the Lady Eagles to a share of the league title with Highland.
Pohar was also a First Team selection, with IVCC teammates Quince Weber and Rachael Moraski earning Second Team honors.
IVCC head coach Tom Ptak shared Coach of the Year honors with Highland's Lonnie Boga.
