Ottawa attorney Jim Reilly is facing a charge of obstructing justice in connection with a March 1 traffic stop.
According to Ottawa police, Reilly, 63, was stopped shortly after 11 p.m. while driving at Main and Fillmore streets. Police said he was issued a ticket for disregarding a stop sign.
On Friday, the La Salle County State's Attorney's Office filed a misdemeanor obstruction charge against Reilly.
"He cooperated other than he refused to exit the vehicle when ordered, and that is technically an obstruction," Assistant State's Attorney George Mueller said in an email. "We are treating him the same as we would treat anyone else, and the traffic assistant (state's attorneys) are taking it from here."
Reached Friday afternoon, Reilly said, "We'll let the legal system sort it out." He declined to comment further.
