BLOOMINGTON — Karen Sue Gudeman, 59, of Bloomington, passed away Tuesday, March 6, at her home.
Private family services will be at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Ralph Wingate officiating.
Karen was born Sept. 13, 1958, in Ottawa, to Doyle and Elizabeth McDermott Jelm. She married Marvin Gudeman on June 17, 1983.
Karen is survived by her husband, Marvin; son, Marcus (Jody Mickelson), of Bloomington; son, Brett (Brynn), of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; a very special grandson, Brayden; her mother, Betty, of Somonauk; and sister, Cheryl, of Ottawa.
She was preceded in death by her father and brother, David.
Karen was a 1976 graduate of Serena High School and graduated in 1981 from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in music education. She was passionate about teaching music and her career included Cissna Park, Ill.; Benton County Community Schools, Ind.; and Surprise, Ariz. She touched the lives of her students so much so that they have kept in contact with her throughout the last 30 years.
Anyone who knew Karen will always remember her contagious laughter and that she was never without her lipstick. Above all, spending time with family was important to her and her door was always open.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Special Olympics Michigan, Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48859, in Karen’s name.
