Dolphins swim to success at districts

Seventy-one Ottawa Dolphins swimmers competed in the 2018 Northwest Jr. District and District Championships at the Sage YMCA. As a team, Ottawa placed fifth of 10 teams, with the Streator Stingrays also sending competitors and placing 10th.
Ten Dolphins swam all of their events in personal-best times — Makena Brue, Brennen Heaver, Danny Marini, Paige Marks, Zach Nelson, Joe Ovanic, Duncan Perry, Owen Phillips, Jon Szewczuk and Luke Williamson.
Junior District champions for Ottawa included: Peyton Bryson (:36.69 in 12U 50 butterfly, :32.50 in 50 freestyle); Griffin Dobblestein (:41.83 in 10U 50 backstroke); Henry Farabaugh (:21.32 in 6U 25 freestyle, :34.12 in 25 breaststroke); Kailey Goetsch (3:14.98 in 12U 200 IM); Brennen Heaver (:25.18 in 8U 25 backstroke); Gabe Marini (:28.55 in 8U 25 freestyle); Bryce Marks (:26.30 in 6U 25 backstroke); and Elle McGrath (:56.53 in 6U 50 freestyle).
Streator's lone Junior District champion was: Quinn Wilkinson (2:52.15 in 10U 200 freestyle).
Ottawa district champions included: Finley Jobst (:35.79 in 8U 50 freestyle, :18.27 in 25 butterfly); and Jordan Ovanic (:54.72 in 21U 100 butterfly).
Cole Bressendorf added a pair of third-place finishes (6U 25 freestyle, 50 freestyle); Lillian Clayton a second (8U 25 freestyle) and a third (25 breaststroke); Tyler Ditchfield two seconds (21U 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly); Addison Fultz two thirds (10U 100 IM, 100 freestyle); Goetsch an additional second (100 freestyle) and third (200 freestyle); Jobst an additional second (100 IM) and third (25 backstroke); Reed McGrath two seconds (8U 25 freestyle, 25 breaststroke) and a third (100 IM); Lily Miller two seconds (10U 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly); Zach Nelson a second (21U 100 breaststroke) and a third (200 breaststroke); Jordan Ovanic an additional third (50 freestyle) and two seconds (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke); Hannah Penoyer two third-place finishes (12U 200 IM, 50 freestyle); Jacob Pocivasek two seconds (21U 200 backstroke, 50 freestyle) and two thirds (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle); and Alaina Schulz two third-place finishes (8U 25 freestyle, 50 freestyle).

Dates for the Streator Golf Association's top events in 2018 include:

• July 14, 15, 21 Richard J. Berry Memorial Golf Championships, Pine Hills-Anderson Fields-Eastwood
• August 26 SGA Senior Championship, Anderson Fields
