John L. 'Jack' Frost Sr.: 1922-2018


MARSEILLES — John L. “Jack” Frost Sr., 95, of Marseilles, passed away Friday, March 2, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home with the Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles with military honors.

Jack was born July 22, 1922, in Newburgh, N.Y., to Harold and Elizabeth (Wood) Frost. In 1946, he married Dorothy Elliott, of Newburgh, N.Y., who passed away in 2005.

He served in the Navy in WWII and was a lifetime member of the Marseilles American Legion Post 235 and Marseilles VFW Post 5506. He was employed by Nabisco until his retirement. 

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Ottawa where he was superintendent of Sunday School, taught Sunday School and served on the Board of Deacons. He was a volunteer at Ottawa Regional Hospital for many years. He served on the Marseilles City Council as finance commissioner and was instrumental in helping build the ball diamond in the late 1960s and was very active in softball, bowling and golf.
Jack is survived by his two daughters, Sharon (Bill) Swanson, and Jacquelyn (Homer) Charbonneau, both of Marseilles; one son; five grandchildren, Todd and Eric (Marcy) Charbonneau, Brad (Julie) and Spence (Jennifer) Swanson, and Cortney (Roger) Kaufman; 12 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Jesse, Tiffany, Luke, Abe, Jake, Nate, Clair, Joel, Drew, Kate, and Drake; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Lois, in infancy; and two brothers, Harold and William Frost.
Memorials may be given to the Marseilles Nursing Service or Feed His Children at Crossbridge Community Church.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
