President Pete Honiotes called to order the Feb. 27 Streator Kiwanis Club meeting and Jerry Myers gave the opening prayer.
Jim Gohs thanked Beckie Chismarick, Jerry Myers and Honiotes for accompanying him to the February Woodland High School Inter-Club visit. The March visit will be to the Ottawa club.
Jessica Slayton reminded members of the club’s Pizza Hut fundraiser is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 5. Money should be turned in as soon as possible.
Program Chairwoman Afton Caulkins introduced Steve Caulkins, her husband and guest speaker. Caulkins spoke about the upcoming Omni Prize for the Arts to be Friday, Sept. 7, to Sunday, Sept. 9, in Ottawa.
The project, staged throughout the downtown area, will include venues in visual arts, drama, music and film. Professional judges will determine prize money. The public also will be able to vote for their favorites. Additional information may be found at omniprize.com. Locally, the OmniArts organization has been instrumental in providing grants to schools and theaters; omniarts.org contains information about local fundraisers; an Art of Pizza Card offering pizzas and a golf card.
