Crash defendant gets new attorney

A man charged in connection with a fatal traffic crash near Mendota, was given a court-appointed attorney Friday in La Salle County Circuit Court.

Brian D. Burress Jr., 34, is charged with having drugs in his system, when he crashed his vehicle in August 2016 on Route 251, which killed his passenger, Alonzo Gonzalez, 20, Mendota. Burress is free on bond and had been represented by Mendota lawyer David Kaleel, but Kaleel dropped out and was replaced by the public defender Friday.

Burress, who wasn't charged until November 2017, has had addresses in Mendota and Sandwich.
