Housing for pets available for flooding evacuees

For those effected by evacuations due to forecasted flooding, Paws Here Pet Resort in rural Oglesby is available to board pets for the duration of the event.

Manager Gerald Buck said owners should bring vaccination records. If they can provide their own food, there will be no charge for boarding due to the flooding. If they cannot provide their own food, there will be a $2 a day charge. The normal boarding fee is $20, which is being waived for residents evacuated for flooding concerns.

"We do have some dogs from the Utica area," Buck said Wednesday morning.

Buck said the resort has room for 10 to 15 animals comfortably, but would be able to rearrange space to allow for more if needed.

On Wednesday, call 815-431-1870 and leave a message, which they will return. They are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. all other days. Paws Here Pet Resort is located at 836 N 2401st Road in Oglesby.

Fox River Veterinary Clinic at 1311 Starfire Drive in Ottawa also was accepting pets as of Wednesday morning. A receptionist said the clinic received phone calls from people displaced by flooding who were bringing their pets there for boarding.
