NEWARK — Gail Sue Lawrence, 73, of Newark, formerly of Sheridan, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 19, at Morris Hospital.

Gail was born Aug. 14, 1944, in Sandwich, to Ivan G. and Fern E. (Larson) Waite. She was joined in marriage to William Lawrence on Aug. 2, 1969, at Newark Lutheran Church.

Gail served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Nursing Corps from December 1965 to December 1969. She had worked as an RN for many years, including as an OB nurse at Ryburn-King Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Sandwich Hospital, Sheridan Correctional Center, an instructor at Copley Memorial Hospital Nursing School, a nurse for home health care and in Dr. Janet Beck’s practice.
She was a member of Newark Lutheran Church, Newark American Legion Post 459, and Friends of the Charles B. Phillips Library.
Gail is survived by her husband, William; son, Michael (Patricia) Lawrence, of Yorktown, Va.; daughter, Amy (Daniel) Motchnik, of Big Rock; seven grandchildren, Devon (fiancee Diana Linton) Vono, Joshua Lawrence, Marcus Motchnik, Jared Lawrence, Gianna Motchnik, Grace Motchnik and Nathan Motchnik.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George Waite.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at Newark Lutheran Church with the Rev. Luke Emerson officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be two hours prior to service. Inurnment of cremains with military honors will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Sugar Grove.
