Marseilles residents near the Illinois River have to evacuate due to flooding concerns.
The city has issued a mandatory evacuation for residents south of the Illinois & Michigan Canal and east of Main Street, which includes Mill Street. Officials are going door-to-door to ensure residents make their way out.
Evacuating residents must be out by 2 p.m. and no re-entry will be allowed after this time.
The Lions Club, 511 Commercial St., and American Legion, 571 Rutland St., are taking in displaced residents. At this time, there is no shelter for pets. Police Chief Jim Hovious is asking residents to find a place to take their pets.
The Illinois Valley Cellular office in Marseilles is closed due to the evacuation.
The Illinois River at Morris, which affects Marseilles, is expected to crest at 24 feet at about midnight Thursday morning. That total is about 8 feet higher than flood stage and just short of a foot of the record flood.
