Edward Wielgopolan: 1925-2018


NAPLATE — Edward "Ed" Wielgopolan, 92, of Naplate, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery with full military rites. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
Ed was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Naplate, to Stanley and Catherine (Siminski) Wielgopolan. He married Jane McNamara on July 24, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Naplate; she passed away May 5, 2016.
Ed retired from LOF-Pilkington. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Naplate and the American Legion. He also was a member and honorary member of the Naplate Fire Department.
Ed served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines.
He is survived by one daughter, Julie Wielgopolan, of Naplate; his furry friend, Kirby; and one brother, Ray Wielgopolan.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; eight sisters, Anastasia Wielgopolan, Mary Malik, Helen Geiger, Sophie Micklos, Louise Washko, Henrietta Ohlendorf, Josephine O'Berto and Florence Dammann; and three brothers, Stanley, Steven and Francis "Frank" Wielgopolan.
Pallbearers will be Michael McNamara, Matt and Chris Pagakis and Steve, Marc and Tim Wielgopolan.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
