LIBRARIES: Valentine’s speed dating at Somonauk

SOMONAUK — Information about activities at Somonauk Public Library, 700 E. La Salle St., can be found by calling 815-498-2440 or visiting somonauklibrary.org:

  • The library provides a monthly adult and children’s calendar of events for patrons.
  • Valentine’s night speed dating for adults ages 40 and older will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14. Preregistration is recommended, with drinks and snacks provided.
  • Financial adviser Justin Gifford will answer Social Security questions at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20.
  • Wednesday bingo will begin at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 14 and 21 (but not on Feb. 28). Admission will be free, with prizes available.
  • The Loop Group, for knitting and crocheting, meets every Friday at 3:30 p.m. A beginners’ class meets the first Friday of the month.
  • The Writers Group has started up again on the first and third Monday of the month at 3:30. Open to teens and adults, participants are asked to bring writing samples.
  • Adult/teens coloring sessions will meet from to 2 to 4 p.m. Mondays and 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays.
  • Teen craft sessions will begin at 4 p.m. every second Tuesday, including Feb. 13. Teen activities will be 4 p.m. every fourth Tuesday, including Feb. 27. Registration will be required.
  • Members of the Genealogy Group, which meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Monday of every month, will next gather Feb. 26. Beginners and the experienced are welcome, with registration preferred.
  • Registration is recommended for the following book clubs: History Book Discussion Group, second Monday of the month, including 6 p.m. Feb. 13.; Thursday Night Book Group, second Thursday of each month; Mystery Book Group, 6 p.m. third Thursday of each month, including Feb. 15.
  • The Men's Book Group will not meet again until March.
  • Children can sign up for the regular children’s story time, bounce time and after school stories at the library. A schedule is available at the library.
  • Reservations are required for the story hour/craft time, which includes stories, songs and crafts with snacks. Story times are 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, three weeks per month.
  • Bounce time will be scheduled when enough children are signed up.
  • Lego Mania will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26. The sessions will be for all ages, with Legos provided.
  • Paws for Reading, a program for children in grades one through six where guests can read to a canine friend, will be 4 to 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22. Sign up is required for a 15 minute (three children) time slot.
  • Digital magazines now can be accessed for free through the library’s website. Log on and click on Zinio. Set up an account and beginning checking out and reading online magazines. They are available on PCs, Macs and mobile devices.
