Naplate Village Board members decided Monday to wait until the entire board is together before they act to replace Mayor James Rick, who died Sunday.
Trustee Lloyd Ludwig is out of town.
The decision followed a moment of silence in honor or Rick and a report by Village Attorney Paul Martin.
Martin said according to state law the board has 60 days to vote one of its own members to serve as mayor. Or, should none of them wish to serve, appoint any other qualified resident of the village to the post.
The new mayor will be appointed to serve the remainder of Rick’s term, which ends in the spring of 2019, Martin said.
A date was not set for a special meeting for the discussion and possible action.
