BENEFITS: Event will assist heart patient

PONTIAC — A benefit for Austin Eggleston, of Pontiac, will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Pontiac Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 531 W. Lincoln Ave. An eighth-grader at St. Mary’s School, Eggleston — who also has family in Streator —  was born with a life-threatening heart condition and is awaiting a new heart at Lurie Children’s Hospital, Chicago. Eight years ago, Eggleston was diagnosed with protein-losing enteropathy; the only cure is a heart transplant. The benefit will raise money for medical bills as well as gas and food expenses. An auction, DJ music and pulled pork sandwiches will be part of the event. Additional information is available on Facebook under “Benefit for Austin Eggleston.”
