AREA ROUNDUP: Knights upend No. 2 Ridgeview; Setchell hits 1,000

MINONK — The Ridgeview Mustangs came into Minonk on Friday ranked the No. 2 team in the state in Class 1A by the Associated Press.
They left with a loss.
Fieldcrest (13-7 overall, 4-4 HOIC) stunned the Mustangs 56-48 in Heart of Illinois Conference play Friday, spearheaded by junior guard Derek May's 30 points — 25 of those coming in the second half — which included seven 3-pointers. 
Tremont 56, Flanagan-Cornell 54
At Tremont, the visiting Falcons (8-11, 2-7 HOIC) led by one point going into the fourth but suffered the HOIC loss despite 18 points from Jeremy Durdan and a dozen more from Tyler Harms.
Newark 87, Paw Paw 59
At Paw Paw, the visiting Norsemen roared out of the gate Friday with 31 first-quarter points in improving to 13-6 (7-0 in the Little Ten).
Newark's Dylan Patrick scored 25 points and added 10 rebounds and eight assists for the near double-double. Brett Myre poured in 18 points, Corey Jacobson 15 and Jacob Chapman nine.
Tim McNally posted his second straight double-double for Paw Paw, tallying 16 points and 18 rebounds. Brandon Heiman added 14 points, with Rob Hill scoring 10 and Michael Lampson nine.
Indian Creek 73, Somonauk 51
At Somonauk, the host Bobcats trailed by 10 at the half and fell out of it during a 24-8 third quarter en route to falling to 8-12 (4-2).
Somonauk's Liam Roberts popped in 18 points to lead all scorers. Justin Steorts added seven points, with Nolan Wegener scoring six.
Serena 63, LaMoille-Ohio 44
At LaMoille, the Huskers drained nine 3-pointers, outscored the Lions in every quarter and saw leading scorer Jakob Setchell pass the 1,000-point milestone for his varsity career Friday in the Little Ten Conference triumph.
Setchell poured in a game-best 33 points and added five steals. Branden Franzen tallied eight points, with Tony Pusateri and Brennen Marker adding six apiece.

Somonauk dances to final day
At Bloomington, judges rewarded Somonauk with a score of 83.02 Friday morning in the IHSA 1A State preliminaries, placing it 12th and earning the team the final advancing spot in Saturday's IHSA Class 1A State Finals. Somonauk will report at 10:38 a.m. and perform at 11:18 a.m. at Bloomington's Grossinger Motors Arena.
Seneca, also a 1A state qualifier, placed 25th Friday with a score of 76.08.
Sandwich 63, Plano 10
At Sandwich, the host Indians dominated their archrivals led by pinfall victories from Justin Avery (106 pounds), Tyler Schindlbeck (113), Zach Reyes (170) and Wyatt Murphy (182).
Cael Schindlbeck (120) and Antonio Perya (220) added victories via decision, with forfeit wins credited to Adrian Mendoza (126), Eddie Brown (132), Jacob Newberry (138), Kackson Murphy (152) and Braden Mansur (195).

Ottawa 40, Rochelle 20
At Love Gym, the Lady Corsairs (10-11 overall, 4-6 NIB 12) doubled-up the Hubs behind Chloe Cottingham's 15 points, six apiece from Maddie Carroll and Kylee Zoran, and five points courtesy of Tanlee Eich.
Freshman boys basketball
Marquette 60, Hinckley-Big Rock 29
In freshman play, leading scorers for Marquette (14-5) were Bryant Schomas with 18 points and Grant Waldron with 11.
