Doubt has been raised as to the mental fitness of a Marseilles murder defendant.
Jeffrey L. Price, 30, is charged with shaking and hitting a 9-day-old baby June 19, which caused the child's death three days later. On Monday, Price's attorney asked an expert be appointed to evaluate Price's mental status. Chief Judge H. Chris Ryan Jr. will decide whether to make such an appointment.
Price's next court hearing is Friday, with trial set for Monday, Jan. 29. However, that trial date would be canceled if Price is to be evaluated.
