About 15 residents marched the downtown Ottawa courthouse block early Monday night to mark the 45th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.
Members of Illinois Valley Citizens for Life held signs such as "Life the First Inalienable Right" and "Lord, Forgive Us and Our Nation."
A middle-aged man wearing a Pipefitters union sweatshirt told the group he had two children.
"I'm personally against abortion, but I didn't think the government should be involved," he said.
Several marchers thanked him for his opinion.
"We accept other people's beliefs," said Saffron Walter, of Marseilles, who was in her second year participating in the march. "We always hope to change their beliefs."
