Shepherd spikers score split
Shepherd volleyball opened the season with a split, with the seventh-graders besting Channahon 25-14, 26-24. Kellcey DeMoss (13 points) and Brynne Sember (11 points) led at the service line. The Shepherd 8s fell 25-22, 25-21 despite six points and two kills from Zoe Harris, four points and two kills from Gabi Krueger, and five service points and a block from Tres Guerrero.
Central 5s score victory
The Central fifth- and sixth-grade teams opened the year against Channahon, with the Central 5s winning 25-23, 17-25, 15-2 paced by 20 service points from Hailey Larsen. The sixth-grade "A" squad fell 25-19, 25-16, with Alyssa Malmassari serving up a half dozen points.
Wallace splits with Plano
In boys hoops, Wallace's seventh-grade team bested Plano 40-18, paced by Trace Roether's 11 points, nine from Bryce Sharp and seven courtesy of Tanner Coglinese. The Wallace 8s fell 56-39 despite 20 points from Aaron Threadgill and eight from Bradyen Bishop.
RSM 8th-graders win again
Ransom-St. Michael's eighth-grade boys cagers secured a 33-21 victory over Milton Pope. Cade Stevens scored 12 points, Alex Ward seven, Nolan Barr six, and both Tyler Luckey and Davey Rashid four points.
Shepherd boys advance to finals
Both Shepherd's seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball squads advanced to the finals of the Starved Rock Conference Tournament with semifinal wins earlier this week.
The Shepherd 8s (16-2) beat Princeton Logan 35-21, led by Damon Bailey's 15 points and five assists as well as Anthony Miller's 13 points. The seventh-grade Rams (17-2) were victorious 27-22 over Parkside, paced by Levi Sheehan's 12 points, Dillan Quatrano's 10 points and nine rebounds, and D.J. White's eight rebounds.
